The Lawns

Address: Fleet, Lincolnshire PE12 8LN, UK

Around the area there are some interesting places to visit - Moulton Windmill was built in1822, it has recently reopened after restoration and was one of the buildings in the first series of the BBC’s programme “Restoration”, as with all these types of places it has a Tearoom and gift shop.  Ayscoughfee Hall, Museum and Gardens is situated in Spalding also in Spalding is the Romany Museum with its collection of Gypsy caravans.

Going east from the site you will find Long Sutton, which is a small market town with its street market on a Friday. The Parish Church of St Mary, reputed to have the oldest and tallest wooden spire in Europe, is open to visitors.

For the walkers visiting Long Sutton there are three circular walks  around the town which range from 2.75km to 6km. Another area close by with a circular walk is Gedney Drove End. The shorter walk is approximately 1.5km and can be extended to 2.5km. These walks are especially interesting to nature lovers as the saltmarsh has a unique flora and is valuable for birds such as Redshank, wigeon, oystercatchers and many more species of birds.

There are excellent views of The Wash, and in addition to the variety of bird-life the lucky walker may catch a glimpse of the local seal population.
