Friendship & Recognition Award

The Friendship Award (Formerly Helping Hand Award) is awarded to any member who has done something over and above the call of duty.  Below are the recipient by year and where known the reason for them being nominated. Some Recognition Awards are also listed

1990 P Miller

1991 Pam & Don Stannard

1992 Syd Sewell - One couple who have played a bigger part than most in assisting the club develop over the past three years is our former secretary Sid Sewell, and his wife Audrey.  Their warm and friendly personalities, a gift for organisation, and sheer hard work provided the firm foundations on which the club is building.

It was, therefore, particularly gratifying that ex-chairman Pat Brown nominated them to receive the Fleetwood Friendship Award.  They have been tremendous ambassadors for the club and the award is richly deserved – Colin Stockall (Flyer Editor)

1993 Irene Nicholls

1994 Paul Smith - The award was presented to Paul Smith for his special help at Xmas when Mr & Mrs Nicholls had their accident.

1995 Peter Wilson - nominated by Mr & Mrs A Robertson and presented to Mr & Mrs P Wilson for their special help at the Factory Visit Rally.

In reply Peter wrote-  “THANKS is such a little word, it only takes a minute, But there’s a world of meaning, and appreciation in it.”

1996 Alan Robertson - The award was made to Alan, better known as Robo, for his efforts in running discos at club rallies.  It involves him in transporting a vast amount of equipment, as well as playing the music, and the presentation of the trophy at the Easter AGM was a mark of appreciation by members.

1997 Steve Chapman - a letter was read from Mr & Mrs D Turner nominating Mr & Mrs Chapman for all their help when their car broke down at the Valentines rally.

1998 John Huskins - a letter from Mr & Mrs J Lambert was read nominating Mr & Mrs J Huskins for the award for helping out “above the call of duty”.  Throughout John Lamberts term of office as Chairman, Mal & John transported his family and caravan to various rallies throughout the year when he was working.

1999 Doreen & Wally Pitman - two letters one from Mr & Mrs S Willmott and one from Mr & Mrs R Bridges nominated Mr & Mrs W Pitman.

On the way to a rally in Holland, Yvonne & Steve Wilmott were halfway to Harwich when their car refused to go any further and had to be towed home.  This is where two angels appeared in the shape of Wally & Doreen.  They drove home from Harwich to Stamford-Le-Hope, picked up the works van and then drove over to Potters Bat to get Yvonne & Steve’s caravan.  Wally & Doreen, what a wonderful thing you did and we all take our hats off to you. (Roy & Rita Bridges)

2000 Mrs M Huskins & Pat Brown - there were two nominations for the award, firstly for Pat Brown from Alan Robertson for his help in towing Alan’s caravan to and then from the Valentine’s Rally.  Secondly for Marilyn Huskins from Margaret Patrick for the support she gave to her while her husband Cliff was in hospital, making many phone calls and visits to look after her well-being.

2001 No nominations - as Marilyn Huskins and Pat Brown hadn’t met up during the year to share the award in 2000 in was decided that she should hold the award for 2001/2002.

2002 No nominations - however a Recognition Award was presented to Colin Stockall for his hard work and contribution to the Club.

The committee had agreed that a Recognition award would be a good way of showing the club’s appreciation of any member who had made an outstanding contribution to the club. Colin was chosen for his work over a number of years, including the previous year in which he was Co-Rally Officer, Rally officer, Assistant Recruitment Officer, Assistant Publicity Officer, Public Relations Officer, Temporary Advertising Officer, Editor of the Flyer and an excellent Chairman.

2003 No nominations

2004 No nominations - but Phil (Chairman) said he felt sure as friendships developed this year there would be nominations received for next year.

2005 Hazel & David Herriott - nominated by Brian & Sylvia Collins for their help at the 3 Counties rally.  The weekend had been very wet and muddy, David & Hazel were about to leave when they realised that Brian & Sylvia would be left to take down their very wet awning on their own, so they stopped and helped them.

2006 Cath & Laurie English

2007 Maurice & Elizabeth Grant

2008 Betty & Peter Watts

2009 Sylvia & Brian Collins and Sheila & Ray Richards - for stepping in to cover the rally programme when those members responsible left the Club.

2010 Joyce & Ray Smith – in recognition of the cakes Joyce had made through the year including the Fleetwood  20th Anniversary cake
2011 Allan & Jackie Jenkins - in recognition of all they had done for the Club including the website, technical services and running rallies.
2012 Harold & Jean Ormrod - nominated by more than one member for the support they give others.  They have been really faithful Club members even though they reside well away from our normal rallying areas.  It doesn't matter what rally he is at Harold is always there helping out, assisting with awnings, party tents, sweeping up halls, etc, without having to ask him.  He has done it right from his first ever Fleetwood Rally and despite Jean's health problems Harold still carries on come rain or shine.

2013 Rob & Irene Giddons - nominated by Jackie and Allan. They thought about it for some time and considered those members who participate in the Club's activities. They decided to nominate Rob & Irene because they are ever present on our Rally scene, but not only there, but take an active role in each event. Always helping by doing those jobs that make a big difference to the Rally Officers, but doing it in such a way as it's transparent, nothing  being too much trouble, only having to ask and it's seen to right away.

2014 Bill Challis  - nominated by Allan and given in his words "for stepping up to the bar and going over and above the call of duty". Bill volunteered as the Club DJ in 2013, which has saved the Club a considerable sum of money while providing far better and more suited entertainment to our membership at those all-important formal Rallies.

Recognition Award - A plaque was awarded to Brian & Sylvia Collins in recognition of their attending all the AGMs the Club has held over its 25 year existance

They have listened to 15 different Chairmen over the 25 AGMs with only 1 female, Wendy Smith being the Chairwoman. This is a unique achievement, as no other member has come close to it.

Recognition Award - A plaque was also presented to our out-going Treasurer, David Herriott who has over the last 9 years worked diligently to move the Club forwards in leaps and bounds in the area of Financials. When he took over the job, there was an acute lack of processes and procedures. No checks and balances to properly record or track the flow of income and expenses. No formal way to know what equipment the Club owned, and no audited accounts to clearly understand the financial situation of the Club year on year. Thanks to his efforts and his alone we now have paper trails, formal processes and procedures together with an external audit of the Clubs accounts.

2015 Ros & Richard Barsley - selected to receive the award this year for taking the time to administer first aid to two members following separate accidents on the Rally Field and in addition, proceeded to pick blackberries for them as they were unable to do so themselves.
2016 Rob Giddons - selected to receive the award this year for being amongst other things “a knight who helped me a lot”.
2017 Harold & Jean Ormrod
