Pre-check

I have noticed all too often that many caravanners fail to carry the most basic of tool kits. It is true that not everyone has the aptitude to be a mechanical or electrical mastermind, but anyone can carry out some basic checks before setting off.

I have a routine before every trip that takes about an hour the day before, it is as follows.

  1. Check all 12v fuses
  2. Is the fridge working? If in storage with no access to 240v, is it working on gas?
  3. Is the water heater working as above?
  4. Do I have plenty of gas?
  5. Is the water pump working?
  6. Is the heater working?

Although none of these checks guarantee a trouble free trip you do have the peace of mind that all is well as you set off.
