Q&A - Does my 2002 Colchester have a built in 12v Battery Charger?

I have bought a 2002 Colchester 450-2EB but it has no handbook.

I would like to know if there a built in 12v battery charger and if so how it works please.

Response

The operation of the charger is almost identical on every caravan and basically is as follows:

It is operated by 230v mains supply. There will be a circuit breaker in the main control panel that will need to be in the on position, however ensure you have a battery connected prior to switching on.

Your charger will now be switched on and able to charge your leisure battery in the caravan. You can check this by testing the battery terminal voltage which should read above 13.5 volts with the charger on and the mains connected.

When the charger is connected to mains electricity it is of sufficient capacity to run all the 12 volt equipment fitted as standard in your caravan plus charge the battery and run light duty appliances like the TV etc. In order to get the latter to function you will need to switch on the 12 volt supply to all the appliances, it is a single switch and is normally located on the control panel that houses the charger.

Note that each 12 volt appliance and outlet will be protected by its own fuse, again located on the control panel. From memory that is it really.
