Q&A - Is there a reset for the charger on a 2007 Heritage?

I only really want some advice re charging the battery on a 2007 Heritage 640-ES

The charger stopped charging the battery in the summer. Someone said there’s a reset under the fuse / consumer unit panel, didn’t know whether that was the case?

Like most things in my life just never get around to doing these things!

Your issue is interesting, I personally have not heard of this, but done a bit of digging since with another member who has the same van as you, who incidentally has had the problem you refer too.

I've copied his reply below for you to ponder on:-

My charger problems were caused every time I think by my habitual use of the movers while it was connected to the mains. No permanent damage was caused. I don’t think that’s possible because of overcurrent protection which shuts the charger down so there’s no output. I have had no issues since I realised the cause. On the other hand, I never really got to the bottom of the issue last time.

I disconnected mains and battery, reconnected mains – no output (with battery disconnected). I even stripped the unit down and took photos for the other member that had his nicked, but I did nothing.

Pulled and pushed the connector blocks etc, then I heard the alarm chirp! Back online!!

Much more pulling and disconnecting of wires ensued (the unit was unscrewed from the plywood) but I couldn’t reproduce zero volts from what I thought was a dodgy wire.

I reassembled everything and reconnected the battery and never had the problem ever again. Maybe to reset the unit certain capacitors have to be completely discharged before the switch-mode will fire up again and I just happened to have the cover off and be pulling at the external connector blocks at the time. A mystery!

I would go looking for the reset switch on the PDU as a first attempt to rectify the issue, if you cannot locate I would disconnect the mains and the battery, isolate the 12v output circuits by removing the fuses, and ground both battery leads, that will have the effect of discharging any residual charge through capacitance that might be present in the charger circuit. Leave it for a few mins and reconnect everything.

Let me know how you get on either way as I can put more enquiries out for you.

All I can say is…. mmm I’m very guilty of using the movers with the power connected……. Especially at home where I have to turn the van around.

Many thanks for your advice.
