Q&A - Where should the switches be on my control panel?

I am experiencing difficulty working out the switch positions on the control panel when towing and on site allowing the fridge and charging system to work when towing and also the charging system to work when on electric hook-up.

My unit is a 1990 Garland (13ft I think).

My control panel has 3 switches marked as follows from left to right:

Switch 1: Up 12 volt Down on
Switch 2: Up car Down van
Switch 3: Up unmarked Down Fridge

In the manual it states that the fridge switch should be on fridge to allow it to operate on mains hook-up and charge the battery. So when I towed I flicked all the above switches to the up position but when I arrived at the site the fridge had thawed out.

I am not sure which configuration to position these switches while towing to allow the fridge to operate.

Response

I think from what info you have given you have a MAC5/12R control panel

You should have a Mains rocker switch on the LHS of the panel, down for ON, this should be up or OFF for towing or when on a site without mains electric.

When on mains electric this switch allows the charger to charge the leisure battery and power the 12 volt appliances when it's ON.

The next switch to the right supplies 12 volt power, down for ON, to the 4 off 10amp fuses on the control panel to the far right. For towing this should be OFF.

The third switch to the right is the battery select switch, up for CAR and down for CARAVAN, so for towing should be UP. This works in conjunction with your car's split charge relay allowing the caravan's battery and selected appliances to be charged from the car when the engine is running.

The fourth switch is for the fridge 12 volt, again down for ON when towing but also check the fridge is selected to operate on 12 volt from its respective controls local to the fridge.

Hope that's clear - come back if you have an issue.
