Q&A - Why is there no power to my pump socket?

I am having a problem with the electrics to my water pump on my 1991 Crystal 148-4.

The taps are very intermittent and only work very occasionally. I have inserted a volt meter into the socket at the water inlet outside the van and am reading 16v although when I attach the pump it does not power it.

I have tried two pumps and neither work. Both pumps definitely work when connected directly to the battery. I can't understand why there is power going to the socket but it won't power the pump. If you have a wiring diagram available I would very much appreciate it.

I’m not sure a wiring diagram would help you with your issue.

It sounds to me as if you have a loose connection along that pump circuit, or a trapped wire somewhere. The connection is good enough to give you a reading (you'd never get 16 volts so check that) but not good enough to allow an electrical load to flow, so goes open circuit.

You can prove this by having your voltage tester connected across the pump circuit and start the pump.

Come back if you need any further info
