Caravanning All Year

Many sites are now available you year round so you don’t need to put you caravan into store for the winter.

Here are some points for you to consider:

Caravan

Insulation

  • Newer caravans will be double glazed and better insulated
  • Check your hand book, caravans from 1999 should be graded.  Look for an insulation grade of 2 or 3 for all year usage.

Heating

  • Some caravans have a central heating system
  • It is not recommended to use gas heaters all night
  • Consider a thermostatically controlled electric van heater or a low power panel heater

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)

  • Propane can be used all year around whereas Butane becomes ineffective as temperatures fall

Water Containers

  • Outside containers may freeze so have an internal water supply as, some caravans have on board tank if not, consider additional water hog/aqua roll or alternative container
  • Add car type anti-freeze to waste water containers e.g. propylene glycol, to prevent freezing
